Asset Engineer

Purpose of the Job:

Directly support Ceres Power in the development of its solid oxide technology through the provision of robust and reliable assets required for the operation of test stands and test equipment. As the design authority for Test Assets, engage with the Test stakeholders to understand requirements, develop robust designs and work with the Facilities team to deliver the associated designs. Support and lead issues associated with Test Assets. Ensure auditable data on the operation of the Test Assets is produced in line with company quality processes. Maintain and, where appropriate, modify test equipment. Support the Test Capability Team Lead with scheduling and planning activities.

We are a world-leader in solid oxide technology with the aim of playing a central role in the global transition to clean, affordable energy to help tackle climate change and air pollution. We are looking for a highly-motivated Engineer to join a high-performing, fast paced and expanding test team. As an Asset Engineer, you will directly support the development of the technology by ensuring availability of robust and reliable Test Assets that are required for the operation of the circa. 90 test stands we have on-site. The role will require you to work closely with the Facilities team to identify arising issues and determine fast and effective resolutions to maintain test operation. The successful candidate for this position will have excellent communication and negotiation skills, and a proven track record in delivering robust engineering solutions in an industrial setting.

 

Recruitment Brief – Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of Test Assets including their design and all associated documentation.
  • Ensure safety is foremost when designing or implementing any new Test Assets or carrying out works on existing installations.
  • Design and develop Test Assets to meet reliability objectives and in compliance with relevant regulations and standards, including, for example, electrical regulations.
  • Develop and execute Test Asset commissioning plans and maintenance schedules.
  • Conduct failure mode analyses on the Test Assets to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure the highest possible availability.
  • Review and analyse Test Asset performance data.
  • Produce reports and present findings and recommendations.
  • Provide accurate daily updates to test management.
  • Lead fault finding activities, issue investigations and improvement projects.
  • Where appropriate, plan and deliver the handover of Test Assets to the Facilities team.
  • Build a strong and effective relationship with the Facilities team to ensure the availability of Test Assets.
  • Support the Test Capability Team Lead with scheduling and planning.
  • Work package planning.

ESSENTIAL

DESIRABLE

  • Minimum 4 years’ post graduate industrial experience gained in a manufacturing or process plant, food industry, or lab.
  • Design background with experience of one or more of the following:
    • Pumped gas systems
    • Compressed gas systems
    • De-ionised water systems
    • Extraction systems
 
  • Experience of working with hazardous gases.
  • Knowledge of electronics and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of heat transfer, chemical and thermodynamic processes, and control systems.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, for example DSEAR, ATEX, PSSR and PUWER.
 

Education, Training & Skills – Degree, A Levels and professional qualifications including subjects studies

  • BSc/MSc or BEng/MEng level in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or similar.

  • Chartered Engineer or on track to achieve Chartered status

  • Ability to visualise and summarise data, perform basic sense checking, identify inconsistencies and perform basic thermodynamic calculations, e.g. efficiency, simple heat balances.
  • Ability to read and produce technical documents including mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and P&IDs.
  • Ability to plan and manage work packages.
  • Ability to produce risk assessments and other similar safety tools, e.g. HAZID, HAZOP and FMEA.
  • Sound report writing skills and the ability to communicate results and deliver presentations to colleagues and management.
  • Grasp new concepts quickly and develop a good working knowledge of Ceres Power products and their operation.
  • Delivery-focused and highly motivated, capable of handling multiple priorities and working alone as well as part of a high-performing team.
 
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to drive and motivate a team.


 

 

This role will be required to work flexible hours which may include occasional weekends.
