Senior/Principal Modelling and Data Analysis Systems Engineer
Purpose of the Job:
Ceres is a world
leader in Fuel Cell technology. The SteelCell™ at the core of our business is unique
in terms of robustness and cost compared to traditional SOFC and SOEC. Partnerships with Bosch, Weichai Power, Doosan,
Honda and Miura have contributed to Ceres becoming a rare high growth British
tech company in SOFC sector. The focus of the Systems team is to enable the
development power generation systems and electroyser systems based on the SteelCell™,
by co-operating with suppliers, OEM partners, and other functions within Ceres.
This role within the Systems
Team will focus on providing customers (internal and external) with access to
high quality data relating to product performance. The data will come either from predictive
system models or from analysis of test data.
Key Accountabilities:
- Technical Leadership of
projects and work packages, including leading a team of experienced engineers
- Working with global partners to
understand key drivers, requirements and specifications for Solid Oxide Fuel
Cell Systems and Solid Oxide Electrolyser Systems
- Development of system
architectures to meet customer product requirements
- Designing models, identifying
trade-offs and conducting simulations and analysis of systems and components
- Use and development of 0-D and
1-D thermo-fluids modelling of current and future systems along with the
specification of test plans to validate the model performance
- Development and maintenance of
data analysis and reporting tool-sets for use with system engineering and
product development activities;
- Support and development of
automated processing algorithms to enable the definition and generation of
consistent system performance metrics across the business.
- Develop best-practice
processes and tools for the analysis of engineering data, to ensure quality and
consistency across the business.
- Present simulation and
analysis results in a clear and consistent manner to enable engagement with
engineering data throughout the business.
- Support the roll-out of the
developed tools to other parts of the organisation
Desirable Knowledge,
Skills and Experience:
- BSc/MSc or BEng/MEng in
Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or similar
- Systems background and
experience
- Experience working with SOEC
and SOFC desirable
- Fundamental thermo-fluids
knowledge and understanding
- Fundamental chemical reaction
knowledge and understanding
- Process flow modelling
- Experience of developing and
using software and modelling tools working in a cross functional team, using
best practice software engineering practices.
- Good understanding of
programming in a high level language (eg MATLAB /Simulink, Visual Basic,
Python, Java, C/C++) and the associated
software life cycle.
- Experience of
Object-orientated programming within MATLAB would be advantageous but not
essential.
- Aware of the use of
statistical methods in engineering i.e. Six Sigma type techniques.
- Excellent communication
skills, both written and verbal.
- Willingness to adapt and
tailor working practices to suit the demands of the business
- Be fast learner of domain
knowledge and terminology
- Interpretation of test results,
with understanding of measurement techniques, data acquisition and analysis.
- >5 years relevant experience
in industry or during PhD.
- Chartered Engineer or working
towards
